Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach which has a number of causes. It is accompanied by pain or discomfort in the upper part of the abdomen (dyspepsia) and can have a sudden onset (from a stomach irritant such as alcohol or acetylsalicylic acid or ASA) or be more chronic in nature such as in cases of infection with the H. Pylori virus.
Gastroenteritis is a medical term for various types of illness in the gastrointestinal tract, such as stomach flu, which often manifests as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. A common cause of gastroenteritis illness is exposure to harmful micro-organisms such as E. Coli.
Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums (gingiva) caused by bacteria and poor dental care. Left untreated, gingivitis, or "bleeding gums" may lead to periodontitis, a far more serious dental disease.
